Guru Purnima day

This month, on 26 July, we celebrate Guru Purnima day. In the Hindu tradition, this is a day to pay homage and express gratitude to the guru or teacher, who guides us and gives us the inspiration to walk on the right path in life. Did you know that the founder of Ashtanga yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, affectionately known as Guruji, was born on Guru Purnima day in July 1915?

To coincide with Guru Purnima day this year, a new book will be released about Guruji. Written by Guy Donahaye and Eddie Stern, “Guruji: A portrait of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois through the eyes of his students” offers us an unprecedented portrait of a great yoga teacher and the ways in which teachings and traditions are passed on. The book is available on Amazon.

Why not take some time on this day to reflect on the Ashtanga system that Pattabhi Jois has given us? You may also like to consider what you have achieved in the last year and renew your focus on your own spiritual goals.
